The client
West Cumbria Carers provides support to carers who look after a family member, relative, friend or neighbor who could not manage without their help. The organisation provides services to carers in the districts of Allerdale and Copeland in the county of Cumbria.
The main requirement for this project was to provide a hub for news, events and information that local carers could use as well as a resource professionals and supporters. Having all of this information in one centralised place required taking a considered approach as user-friendliness was another key consideration for the client — aiming not to overwhelm site visitors, but to present easily digested, coherent content.
In order to keep ease of use a priority, during development stages we divided the site into four main service sections with multi-level navigation within each. We also created a news and email campaign, sending a daily branded email to mailing list subscribers when a news item is uploaded to the site. We also built a combined calendar into the site, showing all events from each section of the website into one place; while we also added separate calendars for ease.
We also created online referral form, allowing professionals to refer someone who could benefit from the support of West Cumbria Carers.
The website is very well maintained and updated by the client, as a result providing an excellent resource for carers and their families in the area.
